Academic eligibility policy:
Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA with no “F’s” on their last progress and/or trimester report cards. Each student will have one week at the progress report card time and two weeks at the trimester report card time to become eligible and will be allowed to practice with the team. If they have not become eligible after the one/two weeks, then they will be dismissed from the team.
Deportment eligibility:
Athletic Eligibility Deportment Policy
for Columbia Elementary School
When a student indicates an intention to participate (sign up) in a sport/activity a grade check will be performed using the last official grading period for academics and using the previous four weeks for behavior and four weeks after the season starts.
Any student who has a D or F behavior grade for the four weeks prior to the beginning of an activity will have to serve a “waiting period” before participation (no games but will be allowed to practice). Detentions or community service will be served during the ”waiting period”. If a student is serving prior detentions then they will also need to do community service during the waiting period. The principal will assign appropriate community service/detentions.
D………. 5 day “waiting period”
F………..10 day “waiting period”
Behavior grade will be determined by the number of demerits a student has received.
Students averaging one demerit per week will have an F: 80% of those demerits will be considered a D.
6 demerits in 6 weeks = F
5 demerits in 6 weeks = D
Students with 12 or more demerits in the four weeks prior to an activity will be ineligible to participate for the entire season.
Any student receiving a behavior referral during his/her “waiting period” will not be allowed to participate.
Upon completing a successful waiting period the student will be placed on a “sports behavior contract” for the remainder of the sport. Parent and student must sign and return the contract before participation will be allowed.
A violation of the sports behavior contract will result in the following consequences:
1 referral ……….1 game suspension
2 referrals ……….suspension from activity for the season
Serious infractions as determined by the principal could result in immediate suspension from the activity.
Once a student has “sport behavior contract” participation on the team will be permitted until the end of the season, regardless of behavior grade at the grading period, unless the contract has been violated.

Dear Parents and
Athlete, Our
philosophy of coaching at Columbia School emphasizes that all who
participate will learn the game, improve their skills, build team spirit,
and have fun. We do our best to play all students each game. The amount of
time a student plays each game depends on, the amount of effort, skill
level and positive attitude a student puts into practice.
GUIDELINES
ATHLETES MUST FOLLOW The
following is a list of guidelines, which students must follow: -
A student must maintain a 2.0 GPA with
no “F’s” at either progress or report card time to participate in an
extra-curricular school activity. No grade lower than “C” in
deportment. -
Afternoon practice is generally M-Th.
from 3 to 4:30pm. If there is a change in times athletes will be
notified in advanced. Students
may not leave campus before or during practice.
Morning practice is Monday-Friday 7-8am. -
Students must be picked up at 4:35pm. Students picked up after 4:35pm will
receive one warning. After the next late pick up, the student will be
asked to leave the team. Parents who work late may arrange for their child
to go home with a teammate. There will be no supervision after 4:35. -
Students must wear shorts or sweats and have proper footwear to practice.
No jewelry can be worn during practice or games. No spike shoes allowed
for track. -
Students who receive a school suspension during the season will not play
in the next game and may lose their eligibility to play. -
Students who receive a class suspension on a game day will not play in
that game. They may not dress out, travel or sit with their team. -
Students must be present at school for the entire day to participate in a
competition. Any exceptions must be arranged with the coach prior to the
day of competition. -
Students that miss a practice may be held out of the next competition. If
a student misses three practices without a valid excuse they may be
removed from the team. -
Students who lie to the coach, steal from teammates, or are involved in a
fight may be asked to leave the team. -
If a student is deemed ineligible due to deportment may not dress out,
travel or sit with their team during competition. -
During the game students must sit on the bench with the coach. They must
display good sportsmanship. -
Students must have a note stating that they are allowed to go home with
someone other than their parents and/or they are allowed to walk home. -
Students must check in with the coach if going home with their parents
after the game. If
you have any questions, please contact either the coach or athletic
director at 533-7700. - |
